MGH to present a webcast of liver cancer surgery

To help inform physicians about innovative surgical treatments and techniques and to inform current and potential patients about new procedures, the MGH will broadcast on the Internet a surgical procedure to treat liver cancer at www2.massgeneral.org/webcast.

The procedure — a liver resection — is performed on select patients with either primary or secondary liver cancers. Kenneth Tanabe, MD, chief of MGH Surgical Oncology, and James Cusack, MD, of MGH Surgical Oncology, will perform the surgery Feb. 3. Sam Yoon, MD, also of MGH Surgical Oncology, will serve as narrator.

This webcast, which will be accessible Feb. 4, will be the fifth installment in a series of online broadcasts from the MGH. Previous webcasts include a thoracic aortic aneurysm, a laparoscopic colon resection, an off-pump coronary bypass and a laparoscopic radical prostatectomy. These procedures also can be viewed at www2.massgeneral.org/webcast.

For more information about the webcast, call (800) 388-4644.
