Department of Surgery announces junior faculty award winners

The Department of Surgery recently announced the results of the first Surgical Research Council Junior Faculty Award competition.

The first winner is Laurence Rhame PhD, assistant professor in the Trauma and Burns Division, for a study entitled "Identification of anti-infective compounds produced by Pseudomonas aeruginosa."

The second awardee is Sam Yoon, MD, instructor in Surgical Oncology, for a study entitled "Calcipressin 1 inhibition of calcineurin in endothelial cells and endothelial cell-derived tumors."

The award program was established in 2004 by the Surgical Research Council of the Department of Surgery and is chaired by David H. Sachs, MD, director of the MGH Transplantation Biology Research Center. The program awards $25,000 in direct costs to two junior investigators within the department. Each award is intended to facilitate experimental approaches, initiate new projects and/or assist junior faculty members in establishing research programs.
