Expertise in Clinical Practice nominations
Nominations for the Stephanie M. Macaluso, RN, Expertise in Clinical Practice awards, recognizing exemplary practice of direct-care providers throughout MGH Patient Care Services, are due Sept. 18. Eligible nominees include registered nurses; occupational, physical and respiratory therapists; speech/language pathologists; social workers and chaplains.
     In addition to hospitalwide recognition, award recipients will receive tuition and travel expenses to a professional conference or course of their choice.
     Direct care providers, nurse managers, directors, clinical leadership and other health professionals, as well as patients and families, may submit nominations. Forms are available in patient care areas, department offices and at the Main and Gray information desks. Awardees will be announced the third week of November, and a recognition celebration will be held Dec. 3.

Children's health meeting
The Association for the Care of Children's Health will hold an open meeting Sept. 28, 6 to 9 pm, in the Wellman Conference Room. The topic will be "How to Incorporate Family-Centered Care into a Medical Delivery Model." Reservations are required. PeopleSoft training
PeopleSoft online training courses will be offered on Tuesdays through Sept. 30 in Founders Room 643. Requisition classes for new users will take place 8:30 am to noon, and refresher classes will be held 1 to 3 pm. To register, contact Rossy Elliot at 4-1388. Computer training
Partners Information Systems will offer computer training workshops about standard Partners software applications throughout the fall in the Learning and Diversity Office, Charles River Plaza, 185 Cambridge St. Schedules and registration forms are available at Partners Human Resources offices on White 14; at Blossom Court; CNY Building 149, floor 7; Learning and Diversity; or by calling (800) 315-0895.

Fellows seminar series
The Clinical Research Program (CRP) will sponsor the Fellows Seminar Series, which will start with a discussion about different career paths available for clinical investigators, Sept. 14, 5 to 6 pm, in the Bigelow 8 Conference Room. The series will provide career planning information for MGH clinical fellows. Future seminars include "Mentors and Mentees," Oct. 5; "Grantmanship," Nov. 2; and "Formal Education for the Clinical Researcher," Dec. 7. To attend, call the CRP Education Office at 6-1669.

MGH·Charlestown turns 30
The 30-year anniversary celebration of MGH·Charlestown begins Sept. 13 with a family festival, 1 to 4 pm, featuring health screenings, healthy food, musical entertainment by Charlestown Pipe and Drum Corps and DJ Chris Athas, and special guest appearances by WHDH-TV Channel 7's Lester Strong, National Park Service Rangers and New England Revolution soccer players. Charlestown senior citizens are invited to attend "Tea at Two," Sept. 15, 2 to 4 pm, with pick-up service available from the MGH shuttle by calling 4-8012. "Lifestyles of the Fit and Fabulous – a HealthSpeak discussion," will take place Sept. 17, 6 to 8 pm. Heather Sung, MD, will discuss living a healthier lifestyle, and Todd English, chef and owner of Olives Restaurant, will give a presentation on low-fat cooking. All activities are free and open to the public and will be held at the MGH·Charlestown HealthCare Center, 73 High St. For more information, call 4-8197.

Weight loss program
MGH Nutrition Service will offer a 10-week weight management class "Winning at the Losing Game," Tuesday evenings beginning Oct. 6, 5:15 to 7:30 pm. The course fee is $185 for MGH employees and $195 for all others. Because class size is limited, early registration is encouraged. For more information, call 6-2779.

Programs for cancer patients
The MGH Cancer Center Patient and Family Support Program will sponsor the following programs in the Cancer Resource Room on Cox 1: "The Role of Radiotherapy and Treatment of GYN Cancers," Sept. 16, noon to 1 pm, and "Exercise During and After Cancer Treatment," 2 to 3 pm. Partners in Excellence Awards
Nominations for the 1998 Partners in Excellence Awards, which recognize individuals and teams for exemplary contributions to Partners, are available through departmental supervisors. Nomination forms, which are due Sept. 18, may be submitted through in-house mail to the Partners in Excellence Program, Learning and Diversity, Charles River Plaza, or by fax at 4-0931. Walk to fight heart disease
MGHers will join heart transplant recipients in the American Heart Association Walk Sept. 26, beginning at 10 am along the Charles River. Registration starts at 9 am at Leiderman Field on the Esplanade. Those interested in walking or sponsoring a walker should call 6-7400 or 4-6804.
