Warren Triennial Prize
lecture
All are welcome to attend as Paul Zamecnik, MD, MGH Department of Medicine, gives the
second of the Warren Triennial Prize lectures May 5, 4 to 5 pm, in the O'Keeffe
Auditorium. His topic will be "From Protein Synthesis to Ogligonucleotide
Therapeutics." Zamecnik is the co-recipient of the 1998 Warren Triennial Prize, the
most prestigious award given by the MGH. Recognized for his contributions to the
understanding of protein synthesis and genetic medicine, Zamecnik also received the award
in 1944 and 1949. The other 1998 recipient, Christiane Nusslein-Volhard, PhD, of the
Max-Planck-Institute in Tubingen, Germany, gave the first presentation at the MGH in
March.
Mass. General
West open house
Mass. General West, a primary and specialty care practice in Waltham, will host a Family
Health Day May 1, 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. Free and open to the public, the open house will
feature safety tips from physicians, health screenings, refreshments and fun activities
for children, including a special guest appearance by popular children's character Arthur
the Aardvark. Mass. General West is located at 40 Second Ave. in Waltham, exit 27B off

Amateur photo
contest
The MGH Photography Department encourages all MGH and Partners-affiliated employees to
submit photos for its second annual amateur photo contest. Contestants may submit up to
two photographs, which should be unframed and no larger than 8 by 10 inches. Prizes will
be awarded. Entry forms are available in the Photography Department, Bulfinch 045; the
parking desks in the Main Lobby and the Fruit Street Garage; and the Police and Security
Office, Clinics Basement. Entries need to be submitted to the Photography Department by

Cancer
survivors conference
The Network for Patients and Families, an MGH Cancer Center peer support program for
people living with a diagnosis of cancer, will sponsor a cancer survivors conference
called "Treatment and Beyond: Resources for Survivors," May 8, 8:30 am to 2:30
pm, in the O'Keeffe Auditorium. The conference will feature Gail Harris, journalist and
creator of Body & Soul, a new 13-week series for PBS on holistic health and
spirituality. Harris will moderate a panel of cancer survivors and MGH physicians. To

Funding
opportunity in women's health
The Harvard Medical School's Center of Excellence in Women's Health is accepting
applications for grants funded by the new Harvard Medical School Fund for Women's Health.
The fund provides one-year grants of up to $45,000 to help HMS faculty initiate new,
collaborative, interinstitutional projects in basic and clinical research or education in
women's health. HMS faculty who are staff at MGH, BWH or Beth Israel Deaconess Medical
Center are eligible. A letter of intent and biographical sketch or curriculum vitae are

Running Club
recruiting for Corporate Challenge
The MGH Running Club seeks employees who would like to participate in the Chase Corporate
Challenge, a 3.5-mile run, June 29, 7 pm, starting at the Boston Common. To sign up, bring
registration forms available at the Central Lobby Information Desk along
with a $20 check made out to the MGH Running Club by May 6 to the office of Kate Ulbricht,

medicine
"Genomics and Medicine: Bringing the Power of Genomics Technologies to Basic and
