MGH head of Dietetics honored for food service If you're looking for an award-winning dining experience in Boston, look no further. Helen Doherty, RD, FMP, director of MGH Dietetics, was named "Restaurateur of the Year" by the Massachusetts Restaurant Association, the first time either a woman or an institution has earned the honor, according to Peter Christie, executive vice president of the Massachusetts Restaurant Association. The award, presented to Doherty April 26 at Anthony's Pier 4, has previously gone to operators of such restaurants as Legal Seafoods, Hampshire House and The Pillar House. The MGH was commended for taking the same care as a fine restaurant making fresh food from top quality ingredients, preparing food to order with hospitality and professionalism and staying on top of current food trends. "That is quite an accomplishment for an institution this size," Christie says. The MGH serves 886 patients and 13,000 nonpatients each day. Eat Street Cafe, in the Ellison basement, is noted for the variety and presentation of food, including dishes from many cultures. Doherty's innovations also include the establishment of the Blossom Street Cafe, which offers protein-enriched foods for cancer patients; Tea Leaves and Coffee Beans in the WACC; Coffee Central in the Main Corridor; catering services; and nutrition counseling. |
