Support services for employees who breastfeed

121500lactation.jpg (23467 bytes)What the MGH Employee Assistance Program (EAP) started eight years ago as an effort to support employees who were breastfeeding has blossomed into a comprehensive and collaborative service provided to Partners, MGH and BWH employees. Partners EAP, in collaboration with departments throughout Partners, has increased the number of  lactation rooms or "Mother's Corners" from two to five, in addition to providing educational and consultation services to employees.

In addition to a private, comfortable room for breastfeeding employees, the lactation services include an information packet about breast milk storage, returning to work after maternity leave, pump rental information and a list of resource contacts. A lending library also is available.

Four times a year education programs are offered to this group of employees through EAP. The programs are led by Germaine Lambergs, IBCLC, of MGH Labor and Delivery. Lambergs and Tansy Walker-Bois, IBCLC, of BWH Lactation Support Services, are available to employees to answer questions.

The Mother's Corner MGH site, located in the VBK Building, is supported by EAP staff and Kim Wedge from Partners Occupational Health. There are two locations in CNY, at Building 149 and One Constitution Center, supported by Rebecca Coburn, of MGH Police and Security. MGH Revere HealthCare Center has a Mother's Corner supported by Debra Jacobson, of MGH Administration.

For more information, call the EAP at 726-6976.
