What's Happening

Activation drill
The MGH will be participating in an activation drill Nov. 21, from 8 to 11 am in the Emergency Department (ED). The Radiation Safety Emergency Response Team (RSERT) will respond to the mock incident in the ED. Mock victims, some on stretchers, will be visible on the White ramp. This drill is to prepare for an emergency response to radioactive materials. For more information, call Julia Gabaldon at (617) 726-0312.

Lung Cancer Awareness Day
The MGH Cancer Center will host Lung Cancer Awareness Day Nov. 17, from 10 am to 2 pm in the Main Corridor. Information about early detection, prevention and treatment for lung cancer will be available. For more information, call (617) 724-9432.

Great American Smokeout
The MGH Quit Smoking Service and the "Pack It In" program at the MGH health centers will host an information table in recognition of the Great American Smokeout Nov. 20, from 9 am to 2 pm in the Main Lobby. All smokers are encouraged to try not to smoke for 24 hours. Information about MGH tobacco treatment services will be available. Senior HealthWISE seminar
The MGH Senior HealthWISE program will offer, "What the MGH Retail Shops Have to Offer the Community" Nov. 18, from 11 am to noon in the Walcott Conference Room. For more information, call (617) 724-6756.

Thanksgiving interfaith service
The MGH Chaplaincy Department will celebrate an interfaith service in recognition of the Thanksgiving Day holiday Nov. 24, from 12:15 to 12:45 pm in the MGH Chapel on Ellison 1. There will be readings from various faith traditions as well as communal reflections. All are welcome. For more information, call (617) 726-2220.

CNY blood drive
MGH employees working at CNY are invited to participate in a blood drive Nov. 19, from 8:30 am to 2 pm. The MGH Bloodmobile will be located at CNY Building 149. New donors are welcome. Backup Child Care Center Vacation Club Camp
Reservations for the Backup Child Care Center's Winter School-Age Vacation Club Camp will be taken by phone Nov. 17, starting at 8 am. The camp will be held Dec. 21 to 26 and Dec. 29 to Jan 2, 7:30 am to 6 pm. The program is offered to employees' children from age 6 (completed kindergarten) to 12. Camp costs $220 per child per four-day week. Part-time slots are available at $60 per child per day. Payment is due in full Dec. 5 by 5 pm. 2004 call for abstracts
Abstracts may be submitted for the 2004 Research Symposium and Poster Session being held in conjunction with the MGH Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) Feb. 4. All abstracts will be juried with 78 chosen for the SAC poster session, and 10 of the abstracts will receive up to $750 for travel expenses to a scientific meeting. MGH Basketball League
The MGH Basketball League is looking for members to join the fall/spring league starting Dec. 1. The league is open to both men and women who are MGH or Partners employees.
