Alzheimers Disease
Awareness month
In recognition of Alzheimers Disease Awareness month, the MGH Memory Disorders Unit
and Social Service Department will present an educational table Nov. 17, 9 am to 3 pm in
the Main Lobby. Educational materials about Alzheimers disease will be available,
and staff from the Memory Disorders Unit will be present to answer questions. For more

MGH HOPES seminars
The MGH Cancer Center HOPES program (Helping Out Patients/ Families through Education and
Support) will present educational seminars for patients, families and MGHers. "Manage
the Stresses of Living with Cancer through Relaxation and Visualization," Nov. 17,
facilitated by Kathy Clair-Hayes, MSW, of MGH Social Service. "Kick the Habit for
Better Health: Resources to Help You Quit Smoking," Nov. 18, facilitated by Eileen
Joyce, MSW, of MGH Social Service. "Bone Marrow/Stem Cell Transplantation: A
Discussion," Nov. 19, facilitated by Cathleen Poliquin, RN, of MGH Bone Marrow
Transplantation. All seminars are held in the Cancer Resource Room, Cox 1, from 1 to 2 pm.
Tax forms for foreign
nationals
Foreign nationals with J-1 or F-1 visas who wish to claim exemption from federal taxes for
the year 2000 under an existing tax treaty between the United States and their country of
residence will be contacted by the Payroll Office in December to complete IRS form 8233
and an affidavit. These documents will be available in the Payroll offices location at
Clinics 117 and CNY Building 149, second floor.
Thanksgiving pies
Orders for Thanksgiving pies may be placed until Nov. 22 at 3 pm through Nutrition
Services. Order forms are available in the Eat Street Café, Coffee Central, Blossom
Café, and Tea Leaves and Coffee Beans. Apple, pumpkin, sweet potato, apple-cranberry and
apple-raspberry pies will be offered, ranging from $7.50 to $8.25 per pie. Pie pickup will
be Nov. 23 after 3 pm and Nov. 24, 10 am to 5 pm.
Building and respecting
cultural identity
The Employee Assistance Program is sponsoring the seminar, "Building and Respecting
Cultural Identity and Tradition," Nov. 18, noon to 1 pm, Wellman Conference Room.
This seminar will introduce participants to various traditions and rituals of holiday
celebrations, to help employees and their families determine what is most meaningful to
them during the holiday season. Additionally, this presentation will address promoting
understanding and respect in the workplace by acknowledging the significance of diversity
in cultural heritage. Candelaria Silva, diversity consultant, educator and specialist in
childrens multi-cultural literature, will facilitate this seminar. For more

Kenneth B. Schwartz rounds
The 32nd Kenneth B. Schwartz Rounds will be Nov. 19, noon to 1 pm in the Walcott
Conference Room. Lunch will be provided. The rounds will feature a discussion about
"Sexually Speaking: Exploring the Issues for Women Living with Cancer." To
register, call 4-6862. CME credits are available for risk management. |
