Do your smoke
detectors work?
In conjunction with Fire Prevention Week, the MGH Burn and Trauma Center
hosted an information table about fire prevention and the use of smoke
detectors Oct. 12 in the Main Corridor. The display featured information
about the different types of detectors on the market, changing batteries
and testing smoke detectors.
"After
the recent fire in Dennis, Mass. that killed a family of five because
of a non-functioning smoke detector, we wanted to get the message out
about fire prevention," said Sally Morton, RN, of the Burn Center.
"It's important to periodically check to make sure your smoke detectors
are working properly."
The Burn Center will host another information table, "Everything
You Wanted to Know About Smoke Detectors but Were Afraid to Ask,"
Oct. 29 at 1 pm in the Main Corridor. In preparation for turning back
the clocks Oct. 31 a time when batteries should be changed in smoke
detectors batteries will be distributed at the information table.
