Fall 2002 development series
Partners Human Resources now is offering the fall 2002 training schedule for the Professional Development Series, a program that includes training for managers and supervisors, and coursework open to all employees. Topics include improving communication and writing skills, time and project management and understanding hospital finances. Senior HealthWISE seminar
The MGH Senior Supper Club HealthWISE seminar series will offer an educational seminar "Fall Prevention: Safe Living for Seniors" Oct. 21, from 4 to 5 pm in the O'Keeffe Auditorium. The seminar will be presented by Karen Wolf, PhD, and Patricia Sullivan, PhD, from the MGH Institute of Health Professions. Admission is free. For more information, call (617) 724-6756.

Alzheimer's support seminar
The MGH Senior Health Family-Caregiver Support Program will sponsor "Collateral Damage: Keeping the Family Disease from Becoming the Family Curse," presented by Charles P. Pierce, Boston Globe journalist and author of Hard to Forget: An Alzheimer's Story, Oct. 29 in the Walcott Conference Rooms 2 and 3. Refreshments will be served at 5 pm, and the program will be held from 5:30 to 7 pm. A book signing and discussion will follow. Seating is limited, and registration is recommended. Domestic violence awareness
In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October, the hospital's Domestic Violence Working Group will present a final seminar focusing on the response of the Latino community to domestic violence Oct. 24, from noon to 1 pm in the Walcott 2 and 3 Conference Rooms. Culturally responsive care seminar
The MGH Patient Care Services Diversity Steering Committee will hold a seminar, "Culturally Responsive Care for Persons Living with HIV," Oct. 21, from 1 to 3 pm in the O'Keeffe Auditorium. For more information, call (617) 724-7469.

Medearis lecture
The sixth annual Donald N. Medearis, MD, lecture will be held Oct. 22, from noon to 1 pm in the O'Keeffe Auditorium. The lecture is dedicated to Medearis, former chief of MGH Pediatrics, who dedicated his life to improving the health of infants and children. The guest speaker will be Ronald E. Kleinman, MD, current associate chief of Pediatrics. There will be a poster session immediately following the lecture. For more information, call (617) 726-3480.

Scientific writing series
The MGH Clinical Research Program and MGH Psychiatry will present the final installment of a four-part educational series, "Scientific Writing," Oct. 23, from 4 to 5 pm in the O'Keeffe Auditorium. Breast cancer conference
The MGH Institute of Health Professions will offer a full-day conference, "Breast Cancer Diagnosis through Survivorship: Rehabilitation Considerations for Health Care Professionals," Oct. 26, from 8 am to 5:30 pm, and an optional massage and bandaging demonstration from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. A variety of topics related to breast cancer will be addressed, with special focus on the short- and long-term effects of breast cancer on shoulder and arm function by examining musculoskeletal changes that emerge from treatment.
