just a little pinch: MGH offers flu shots
Despite last year's mild flu season, it is important for MGHers to
protect themselves from the flu this year by getting vaccinated. It
can lead to complications such as pneumonia, bronchitis and even death.
Each year, the flu is responsible for the hospitalization of 114,000
people and 20,000 deaths in the United States.

little knowledge could prevent burns
Many people don't know that the common cooking ingredient
vanilla extract
is highly flammable and can cause small house fires to accelerate quickly.
This little known fact and other information about fire and burn prevention
were given to the MGH community during Burn Prevention Week,
Oct. 7 to 11.

United Way: Compassion in action
The United Way is well known for bringing hope and help to needy
individuals in Boston and the surrounding areas. Just as the MGH United
Way campaign kicks into high gear, programs are underway that highlight
the importance of United Way funding, not only in the community but
also at the MGH itself.

- Clowning
around
Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus brought a little magic
to MassGeneral Hospital for Children Oct. 10. Clowns Richard and Mikey
entertained young patients on the pediatric floors by juggling
scarves, spinning plates on their fingers and performing silly skits.
