• Ether Day 2003: MGH honors employees for years of service
  The MGH celebrated Ether Day – the annual celebration that recognizes employee length of service – Oct. 10 under the Bulfinch Tent. More than 2,000 employees and staff who have worked at the hospital for 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50 and 60 years were honored. John Barlow, MD, Daniel Federman, MD, Mortin Olin, MD – who celebrated 50 years at the MGH – and Grant Rodkey, MD, who celebrated 60 years, all were present for the festivities.

• Feeling blue about the flu? Don't – flu shots are available
  The MGH employee and volunteer flu vaccination program begins Oct. 20 and will be offered
  in a new location on the main campus this year – the WACC Lobby. All employees and volunteers – particularly those who have direct contact with patients – are encouraged to get the flu vaccine.

• Local seniors get moving
  More than 30 community seniors shook and shimmied their way to good health Oct. 7 at the kickoff for the Senior HealthWISE lecture series, the first in a series of "get well" seminars for community seniors.

• MGH recognizes physician assistants
  For more than 30 years, physician assistants (PA) have provided quality medical care and
  service in many health care settings. The profession's impact on the world of medicine continues to grow and was recognized Oct. 6 when physician assistants from the MGH and throughout the country celebrated the fifth annual National Physician Assistants Day.

• Red Sox fever
  Red Sox fever spread through the halls of the MGH Chelsea HealthCare Center Oct. 8 – the first day of the Red Sox versus the Yankees series. Employees reported to work decked out in Red Sox paraphernalia and cowboy hats to show their support.

• Women's soccer benefits from MGH medical expertise
  Thomas Gill, MD, an orthopaedic surgeon in MGH Sports Medicine Services, served as medical director for the 2003 Women's World Cup soccer tournament, which was held at Gillette Stadium Sept. 27 through Oct. 1.

• MGH employees perform Good Samaritan act
  Lunchtime is a daily routine break for most MGH employees. For Shana Bryant and Cynthia Meglio, RN, both of the MGH Electrophysiology Lab in the Cardiology Division, lunch was anything but routine when it turned into a heroic act Sept. 9.

• Models of cleanliness
  Several MGHers took the time to double as "models" for the hospitalwide campaign sponsored by the STOP (Stop Transmission Of Pathogens) task force – formerly known as the Hand Hygiene task force.
