What's Happening

Ether Day celebration
Ether Day will be celebrated this year at the MGH Oct. 13 at 2 pm under the Bulfinch Tent. Employees will be recognized for length of service. Ether Day pins will be distributed to department heads Oct. 2 to 6. Ether Day flowers will be distributed to departments Oct. 13.

Partners in Excellence
The deadline for submission for Partners in Excellence award nominations has been extended to Oct. 4. Forms may be obtained through the Partners website at http://intranet.partners.org/pie/ or from managers and supervisors. National Depression Screening Day
The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) will participate in a nationwide program designed to provide information about the signs, symptoms and treatment of depression. The EAP will offer free, anonymous and confidential screening tests to all employees Oct. 5 from 9 am to 5 pm in VBK 427. Participants may walk in for the 15-minute self-administered test. Mental health professionals will be available to confidentially review and discuss the results. Information about depression also will be available. Kenneth B. Schwartz Center annual dinner
The Kenneth B. Schwartz Center will celebrate its fifth anniversary at the annual dinner Oct. 18, 5:30 pm at the Westin Hotel, Copley Place. The dinner will feature a performance by Arlo Guthrie, and the presentation of the second annual Compassionate Caregiver Award. Tickets are $175. Domestic violence awareness
In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the Domestic Violence Working Group will present "When Domestic Violence Comes to Work," Oct. 5, noon to 1 pm in the Walcott 2 and 3 Conference Rooms. Lunch will be served. For more information, call 724-0054.

Physical Therapy Month
The MGH Physical Therapy Department will host a series of information booths in recognition of Physical Therapy Month. On Oct. 4, information about how footwear may contribute to common foot aches, pains and strains will be featured. Information about fall prevention and safety awareness will be available Oct. 11. On Oct. 18, information about osteoporosis will be available. Each information booth will be held 11:30 am to 1 pm in the Main Corridor.

MGH house officers reunion
All current and former MGH medical residents, fellows and faculty are invited to attend the MGH Medical House Officers Reunion Oct. 6 through 8. A symposium will be held at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel Oct. 7, entitled: "Graduate and Post-graduate Medical Education for Careers in Medicine in the New Millennium." Leg Health Day at the MGH General Store
On Oct. 5, representatives from Jobst compression stocking company will be available at the MGH General Store and Flower Shop to answer any questions concerning leg health. All products from Jobst will be 20 percent off and will come with a free gift.
