Wage and salary program announced

The MGH this week announced a fiscal year 2001 wage and salary program that includes a performance-based increase, ranging from 0 to 6 percent. This year's General Hospital program is funded at 4 percent, an increase over last year's 3 percent. Those who are above the maximum of their pay range are eligible for a bonus of 0 to 4 percent. The Massachusetts General Physicians Organization is following a similar approach.

In a letter distributed to employees this week, James J. Mongan, MD, president of the MGH, noted the extraordinary efforts of employees to deliver the best care and services to patients.

"Because we are having a financially successful year, we are pleased to be able to increase the funding of the wage and salary program," says Mongan. "This is one small way we can show appreciation to our employees for all of the hard work they've done to manage the increase in patient care activities while maintaining high quality and holding down costs."

Employees are eligible for a pay increase on their hire anniversary date. A completed performance appraisal is required before any increase or bonus is processed.

According to Jeff Davis, senior vice president for Human Resources, the hospital will be able to fund 350 new positions in fiscal year 2001. An increase in tuition reimbursement also is being implemented that will bring the maximum reimbursement to $2,000. Reimbursement for certain job-related certificate programs is being offered to further assist employees who are working toward advancing their careers at the hospital.

In addition, the MBTA subsidy provided to employees who purchase a T-pass is being increased to help offset the recent increase in MBTA rates.

Employees and staff who have questions about the wage and salary program are encouraged to speak to their supervisors.
