Helping at a time of heartache

At a time of unprecedented crisis and pain, MGHers – both those affected personally by the terrorist attacks and those mourning with the rest of the nation – may take some comfort in resources available to the hospital community. The Partners Employee Assistance Program (EAP) has planned an extensive campaign of outreach, information, counseling and care for all employees touched by the Sept. 11 tragedy.

"Right now, we are mobilizing our resources across the Partners system and coordinating with departments here at the MGH," explains Andrea Stidsen, director of the EAP.

Several MGH employees have experienced personal losses from the plane crashes and World Trade Center and Pentagon attacks. Immediate counseling has been available to them, and their co-workers are encouraged to take advantage of the EAP's Critical Incident Stress Management Team. The team serves as a department resource for employees affected by loss, either in their own lives or the lives of their colleagues. Managers and supervisors can call the EAP directly for referrals.

A hotline – (800) 724-4327 – also will be manned by EAP counselors during the workday, set up in a triage format and incorporating extra staff as needed.

The EAP is located in VBK 427. Employees and their families may contact program staff by calling (617) 726-6976 or through the toll-free hotline, (800) 724-4327.
