Girl Scouts catch glimpse of future at MGH

Girl Scouts from across the nation had the opportunity to experience health care careers firsthand when they visited the MGH July 26 and 27. The trip was part of an intensive 10-day leadership conference organized by the Patriots' Trail Girl Scout Council of Greater Boston and Simmons College. The MGH visit, coordinated by Donna Perry, RN, of the MGH Center for Clinical and Professional Development, was meant to shed light on the impending shortage of health care workers and to illuminate the many opportunities available to young people in such areas as nursing, medicine, social service and other clinical disciplines.

In addition to tours and presentations, the more than 50 participating scouts had a chance to shadow MGH clinicians for a half day of hands-on learning that included taking X-rays, viewing film and donning scrubs for a closer look at the operating room.
