MGH
employee blood drive campaign in full swing MGHers
are encouraged to keep their eyes open for the MGH Blood Donor Center's new posters, which
will be displayed throughout the hospital as part of a long-term effort to increase the
rate of employee blood donation. Along with the new educational posters, the campaign also
includes a series of newsletter articles and e-mail messages, as well as raffle prizes and
incentive gifts for employee donors.
The actual process of giving blood takes about 20
minutes, and a unit of donated blood can help as many as three patients. Requirements for
blood donation include: general good health; age 18 years or over; weight of at least 100
pounds; no dental work within 24 hours; no body piercing, tattooing, acupuncture or
electrolysis within the past year; and other health factors.
Located
on the first floor of the Gray/Jackson Building, the MGH Blood Donor Center is open Monday
through Thursday, 8:30 am to 6:30 pm, and on Friday,
8:30 am to 4:30 pm. In addition, the Blood Donor Center will be sending the mobile blood
bus to MGH East/CNY Sept. 16 and Nov. 11 as a part of the employee blood drive. For more
information about blood donation, call 6-8183.
