• Flying the MGH banner for a nautical challenge
  Leaving the medical world behind for a week, Jose Venegas, PhD, and Warren Zapol, MD, of MGH Anesthesia and Critical Care, set sail on the open seas to compete in the Marion-Bermuda Yacht Race (MBR) that began June 20.

• Toronto's Delgado a big hit at MGH
  Carlos Delgado, first baseman for the Toronto Blue Jays, has many fans. This was apparent July 18 when he visited the MGH and autographed baseballs in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit on Ellison 3.

• MGH, Shriners receive awards for caring for victims of RI fire
  The MGH and the Shriners Burns Institute of Boston recently were awarded the Downtown North Outstanding Professional and Public Service Award for providing immediate and continuing medical care to the victims of the Station nightclub fire in West Warwick, RI.

• Cycling to help conquer cancer
  A few dedicated MGH employees took time out of their weekend to participate in the first Granite State Quest bike ride July 12 to raise funds to conquer childhood cancer.

• STOP: A new mission for MGH hand hygiene program
  For several years, staff members from the hospitalwide MGH hand hygiene task force have been working diligently to reduce and prevent the incidence of nosocomial — or hospital-acquired infections — by promoting compliance with good hand hygiene.
