happeningApplications for Support Service Grant program
The MGH Diversity Committee, chaired by James J.
Mongan, MD, president of the MGH, recently announced that the Support Service Employees
Grant program now is accepting applications. The Support Service Grant program was
developed to help employees fulfill career goals while improving current job performance
or advancement into other positions. In addition to financial assistance, grant recipients
receive individualized support from a designated mentor. To apply, an employee must have
worked at the MGH for at least two years in a support service position, be benefits
eligible and in good standing. Applications are due Aug. 10. To request an application,

Summer outings for
families of residents and fellows
Spouses and children of MGH resident physicians and
fellows are invited to afternoon gatherings July 14, 21, 28 and Aug. 4, 11 and 18 at
various locations. Those interested in attending need to send their name, address, phone
number, department name and the number of adults and children attending to Dorothee

PeopleSoft training
PeopleSoft online requisition classes are being
offered through Dec. 28, Tuesdays, 8:30 am to noon, in Founders room 643. All participants
should have a working knowledge of Windows software. To sign up for training, call 4-1388.
Deadline extended for
award
The deadline for nominations for the Compassionate
Caregiver of the Year Award, presented by the Kenneth B. Schwartz Center, has been
extended to July 31. Any professional caregiver who has direct contact with patients in
any setting where patients receive care in Massachusetts is eligible for the award, which
will be presented at the center's annual dinner in October, along with a $5,000 prize.

Cancer Center support
program
The Cancer Center Patient and Family Support Program
(PFSP) will offer a seminar called "Managing Multiple Causes of Nausea and Vomiting
in the Cancer Patient" July 13, 11 am to noon. Nina Grenon, MSN, RN, CS, and
Elizabeth Johnson, RN, MSN, OCN, will facilitate the seminar "Handling the Effects of
Radiation on Speaking and Swallowing" led by Tessa Goldsmith, MA, CCCSLP, July 13,
noon to 1 pm. Both seminars will be held in the Cancer Resource Room on Cox 1 July 14.
Kimberly Halloran, PT, will give a workshop in body mechanics for family members and
caretakers of those with cancer noon to 1 pm. This workshop will be held in the White 10
