  • MGH ready for emergencies related to the DNC
    As the largest hospital in the Boston area and a level 1 trauma center, the MGH is always prepared to respond to any type of local, regional or national emergency or disaster. With the Democratic National Convention (DNC) approaching July 26 to 29 the MGH and other Boston-area hospitals have been stepping up their emergency response plans in case an incident happens during the DNC that would cause an influx of patients.
  • First come, first served
    George Desko of MGH Radiology had the distinction of being the first MGH employee July 6 to park in the new Yawkey Center for Outpatient Care underground garage.
  • Tee time for MGHers
    MGHers teed off June 21 at the annual Thomas S. Durant, MD, Golf Tournament, held at the Oyster Harbors Golf Club in Osterville, Mass. The tournament is held in tribute to its namesake, who died from cancer in 2001, and to honor Durant's legacy of helping people from war-ravaged and impoverished countries around the world.
  • MassGeneral Hospital for Children joins pediatric association
    MassGeneral Hospital for Children (MGHC) recently has been admitted to full voting membership in the National Association of Children's Hospitals and Related Institutions (NACHRI). NACHRI is a not-for-profit membership association of children's hospitals, large pediatric units of medical centers and related organizations, including those that specialize in rehabilitative and long-term care of children with serious or congenital illnesses.
  • MGHers lend a helping hand
    After the Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC) announced last week a possible exposure to Hepatitis A from an employee working at Quizno's Sub Shop in Boston, MGHers were ready to lend a helping hand to the hospital's community and neighbors.
  • Honoring the graduates
    For more than a decade, the MGH has offered adult education and English as a Second Language classes for MGH employees who come from countries all over the world, including Morocco, China, Poland, Ethiopia and the Dominican Republic. Offered by the MGH Workplace Education Program, students of these classes gathered June 25 under the Bulfinch tent to celebrate their progress in the program.
  • Director of Social Services retires from MGH
    Gracious, compassionate, wise and optimistic are just a few words Jeanette Ives Erickson, RN, MS, senior vice president for Patient Care Services and chief nurse, used to describe Evelyn Bonander at a farewell reception June 23 under the Bulfinch tent. Bonander, who was director of MGH Social Services, retired July 2 after 19 years of service.
