• Annual Summer Lunch and Diversity Celebration
  A complimentary picnic-style lunch will be served 11:30 am to 2 pm under the Bulfinch Tent, rain or shine.

• Health care focusing on the community
  Fred Babeski, a formerly homeless man and recovering drug and alcohol addict, was among the many moving speakers at the MGH Community Benefit program's five-year anniversary celebration June 19. Delivering the keynote address was Sen. Edward M. Kennedy.

• Women faculty in medical schools perceive gender bias, sexual harassment
  Many women teaching at medical schools nationwide perceive that they are discriminated against and sexually harassed, according to a recent study led by Phyllis Carr, MD, of MGH Primary Care and Women's Health. Male faculty seem to be relatively unaware of the problems and much less affected by them.

• Clinical Practice Award honors excellence
  There was not a dry eye in the O'Keeffe Auditorium after the audience heard the presentations for the Stephanie M. Macaluso Expertise in Clinical Practice Award June 15. The award is given twice a year to recognize direct care providers.

• Partners Telemedicine to be part of Smithsonian
  Nominated by Microsoft Corp.'s William H. Gates, Partners Telemedicine has been added to the permanent research collection of the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American History in Washington.

• MGH United Way Campaign a success
  The 1999 MGH United Way Campaign raised nearly $160,000, thanks to the participation of employees at all levels of the MGH.

• Nutritional Support Unit makes changes
  The MGH Nutritional Support Unit (NSU) recently appointed Sheldon Randall, MD, to the position of medical director of the unit.
