• Mayor Menino visits MGH, thanks employees for DNC plans
  Boston Mayor Thomas Menino came to the MGH June 16 to thank MGH employees for their hard work in preparing for the impact of the upcoming Democratic National Convention (DNC) July 26 to 29. The mayor assured the audience that the DNC will be good for the city and that the road closure decisions being dictated by the Secret Service are for the safety and well being of Boston residents and guests to the city.
  

• Volunteer Recognition Day: Warm words make gray days disappear
  The cold, rainy day didn't dampen the spirits of the audience that gathered June 1 under the Bulfinch tent to hear warm stories of generosity and selflessness as the MGH celebrated its annual Volunteer Recognition Day.
  

• Portrait of former MGH president unveiled
  The likeness of former MGH president and former CEO of Partners, Samuel O. Thier, MD, now graces the reception area outside of the Trustees Room on Bulfinch 2. The portrait was unveiled at a ceremony June 9 with artists Warren and Lucia Prosperi on hand.
  

• MGH symposium addresses disabilities in the workforce
  The Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) believes that approximately 70 percent of people with disabilities currently are not employed in the workforce. How to determine a concrete number and lower this statistic was the topic of discussion June 9 when W. Roy Grizzard, Jr., EdD, the first assistant secretary of Labor for Disability Employment Policy, visited the MGH.
  

• MBTA news: Getting to and from the hospital safely
  Because of the heavy traffic around the Charles Circle area, MGHers who take the Red Line subway service to the Charles Street/MGH T station are strongly encouraged to use the new temporary elevated walkway and platform to safely cross Cambridge Street.
  

• NIH director to speak at Clinical Research Day
  Elias Zerhouni, MD, director of the U.S.National Institutes of Health (NIH), will be the keynote speaker for the second annual MGH Clinical Research Day June 24. His noontime address in the O'Keeffe Auditorium, "Clinical Research: An Old or New Discipline of Medicine," will be followed by a question and answer session with members of the MGH community.
  

• From medicine to music
  Two-time Super Bowl champion and grateful patient Tedy Bruschi opened the seventh annual "Partners Night at the Pops: A Celebration in Honor of Our Physicians" by thanking the 1,000 Partners physicians in attendance for the top-notch medical care and services they offer.
