  • Partners and MGH leaders update hospital community
    As he completes his first five months as president and CEO of Partners HealthCare, James J. Mongan, MD, has been visiting Partners hospitals to offer leaders and staff his views about the value of the system, health care costs and quality and safety initiatives. In an update to MGH leadership June 4, Mongan said that with 33,000 employees, Partners is the largest private employer in Massachusetts, providing care for 21 percent of Eastern Massachusetts residents.

  • OWC reception honors women faculty
    Maintaining the tradition of celebrating and honoring women faculty at the MGH, the MGH Office for Women's Careers (OWC) — a hospitalwide resource for women physicians and scientists with Harvard Medical School appointments — hosted its sixth annual reception May 29. The event recognizes women faculty who have made significant career accomplishments throughout the year.
  • AMMP begins scholarship process
    The Association of Multicultural Members of Partners (AMMP) recently announced the start of its annual educational scholarship application process. AMMP designed this program, which has helped multicultural employees at the MGH, Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital and Partners develop their professional skills and attain their educational goals.
  • Preparations finalized for Magnet site visit
    After months of preparation throughout the hospital, MGHers are counting down the days for the Magnet recognition site visit to take place June 10 to 12. Appraisers from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), a subsidiary of the American Nurses Association, will conduct a three-day site visit to see first-hand why the hospital should be awarded the ANCC's highest nursing honor — Magnet hospital recognition.
  • In memoriam: William S. Beck, MD
    William S. Beck, MD, a former chief of MGH Hematology, died May 27 at the age of 79. Beck's research on the biochemistry of blood cell formation led to more than 200 publications, including scientific articles, essays, short stories and several books.
