MGHers reminded to wear ID badges during DNC

W hen the Democratic National Convention (DNC) comes to the Fleet Center this summer, it will have a significant impact on the MGH and the city of Boston. The MGH Police, Security and Outside Services Department is reminding all employees that during the DNC wearing their photo identification badge is required at all times while on hospital property and will be strictly enforced during the week of the convention.

The department recommends that employees keep ID badges with them at all times, particularly during the week of the convention. Events may require employees to present their badges before entering the hospital or at checkpoints coming to or from the hospital. Proper placement of the ID badge should be picture side out and in a prominent location such as a shirt collar.

"It is imperative for our department to protect everyone, so we are asking every employee to wear their badge at all times while on hospital property. It is possible that you will not be admitted into the hospital without it," says Bonnie Michelman, director of MGH Police and Security and Outside Services.

Employees who need a new or replacement badge should visit the Photo ID Office located in the basement of the Clinics Building, Room 045A, as soon as possible. The office is open Monday through Thursday from 7:30 am to 4 pm, and Fridays from 10:30 am to 4 pm. The Photo ID Office at CNY is located in the West Lobby of Building 149 and is open Monday through Thursday, from 8 am to 4 pm and Fridays, from 10:30 am to 4 pm.

The Photo ID Office on the main campus will offer extended hours the week of July 12 through 17 and again on July 20 to provide additional time for MGHers to receive a new badge.

The hours are as follows:
July 12 through July 16: 6 am to 6 pm
July 17: 8 am to 4 pm
July 20: 6 am to 6 pm

During the week of the DNC, the Photo ID Office will be open on a limited basis or not at all, so employees are encouraged to obtain badges during the preceding weeks. For more information, call (617) 724-9339.
