Harvard School of Public Health lecture
The Harvard School
of Public Health will sponsor a lecture "Race, Genetics and Medicine:
New Data, Ancient Realities" June 4, from 12:30 to 1:30 pm
at the Harvard School of Public Health, 677 Huntington Ave., Boston. Mary-Claire
King, MD, PhD, a professor of Medicine and Genetics at the University

OWC noontime learning series
The Office
for Women's Careers will hold its final Noontime Learning Series for
Women session of the academic year June 5, from noon to 1 pm in the Burr
5 Conference Room. The topic will be "How to Get Yourself Mobilized
to Publish" and will focus on overcoming obstacles and getting motivated

Senior HealthWISE seminar
The MGH Senior HealthWISE education seminar program will offer "Managing
Stress to Stay Healthy" June 9, from 4 to 5 pm in the East Garden
Dining Room. Mary Ann Hardenbergh, director of ABCD Project Health Plus,
will lead a discussion about the effects of stress and how to manage it.

CRP seminar series
The MGH
Clinical Research Program (CRP) will sponsor "RSVP for Health
A New Research Recruitment
Registry" June 11, from noon to 1 pm in the Wellman Conference Room.
Kay Ryan, director of Clinical Research Operations, will present the Research
Subject Volunteer Program (RSVP), a new CRP initiative designed to enhance
timely subject recruitment. To register, call the CRP registration line

Support Service Employee Grant Program
The Support Service Employee Grant Program now is accepting applications
from MGH support service employees who are seeking to improve their skills
and advance their careers. The program is available to all non-exempt,
benefit-eligible employees who have worked at the MGH for at least two
years and are in good performance standing. Applications are available
at the Training and Workforce Development Office at 185 Charles River
Plaza and at the following Human Resources locations: White 14, 75 Blossom
Court and at CNY. The deadline is June 13 for financial assistance for
the fall 2003 and spring 2004 semesters. For more information, contact

Information about Magnet site visit
The MGH is applying for designation as a Magnet hospital — the highest award that can be given to a hospital for its nursing service.
Following the completion of a 2,305-page application, the MGH was notified
that the second phase of the Magnet designation process — the site visit — will
be conducted June 10 to 12. In preparation for the visit, the Department
of Nursing will be hosting Magnet information tables June 6 and 9 to share
important information about Magnet recognition with the hospital community.
Tables will be located near Coffee Central from 7 am to 7 pm and directly
inside the Eat Street Cafe entrance from 11 am to 2 pm.
Men's Cancer Awareness Fair
The MGH Cancer
Center will host the Men's Cancer Awareness Fair June 13, from 10
am to 2 pm in the Main Corridor. Information about early detection, prevention
and treatment of the most common cancers affecting men will be available.
