  Researchers at the MGH and two other institutions have found that discrete parts of the human brain respond in an ordered fashion to the anticipation and reward of money.

• Nurse Recognition 2001 salutes MGH's finest
  From the bedside to the laboratory to the OR, nurses are an integral part of the MGH. The hospital demonstrated its appreciation for its nurses May 6 through 18 in Nurse Recognition 2001.

• Sailing into the future: Building 114 evolves from boat mill to new research facility
  It began as a joinery shop, where Navy rescue and minesweeping vessels were crafted on the banks of Boston Harbor. In an opening ceremony May 16, the newly renovated Building 114 in Charlestown was unveiled both as a state-of-the-art biomedical research laboratory and a public Boston HarborWalk attraction.

• Direct deposit makes payday more convenient
  More than 70 percent of MGHers don't have to wait in line to cash their paychecks. That's because they use direct deposit, which automatically sends paychecks directly into employees' bank accounts.

• Mystery doctor found: MGHer helped game show friend win prize money
  The "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?" mystery has been solved. In a recent episode of the popular ABC-TV game show, a contestant called a lifeline for help answering the $32,000 question. The contestant identified his lifeline only as "Alan, who is a doctor at Mass General in Boston." The mystery doctor turned out to be Alan J. Greenfield, MD, an attending physician for Vascular Radiology.

• Partners town meeting
  Samuel O. Thier, MD, president and CEO of Partners, will discuss a variety of topics related to Partners at a town meeting June 6, 10 to 11 am in the O'Keeffe Auditorium. James J. Mongan, MD, president of the MGH, also will be on hand to answer questions.

• In memoriam
  Michelle Fiorentino, of the MGH Cardiology Division, died May 19 at the age of 35.
