Research Program seminar series
The MGH Clinical Research
Program (CRP) will sponsor a seminar series about reading and interpreting clinical
research literature, May 16, 11:45 am to 1 pm in the Wellman Conference Room. Gary Curhan,
MD, of MGH Medicine and director of the CRP Educational Unit, will moderate the
presentation, and lunch will be served. Participating registered nurses will receive 1.2

Nurse
Recognition 2001
The MGH will celebrate Nurse Recognition
2001, May 6 to 18, with a variety of events. Jeanette Ives Erickson, RN,
MS, senior vice president for Patient Care Services and chief nurse, will
present "Defining the Future of Nursing — It's Up to Us,"
May 10, 1:30 to 2:30 pm in the O'Keeffe Auditorium, followed by a staff
nurse reception in the Trustees Room on Bulfinch 2. An "Ask the Associate
Chiefs" panel will be held May 15, 1:30 to 2:30 pm in the O'Keeffe
Auditorium. The Center for Clinical and Professional Development will
sponsor a program about the culturally competent care curriculum, May
16, 8 am to 4:30 pm at 105 Charles River Plaza. For more information and

Durante Award presentation
MGH employees, friends, family and patients are
invited to attend the annual Susan and Arthur Durante Award ceremony, May 1, at 3 pm in

Palliative
care program
The MGH Ethics in Clinical Practice
Committee, Palliative Care Service and the Center for Clinical and Professional
Development will present "A Different Kind of Care — Palliative
Care on the Front Line," May 4, from 8 to 11 am and noon to 3 pm
in the O'Keeffe Auditorium. Participants will receive 3.6 contact hours.
The program is the second in a four-part series on life stages. For more

Health Professions Research Day
The MGH
Institute of Health Professions will host Research Day, May 3, from 8:30 am to 4 pm at
101 Merrimac St. The event will feature student projects and presentations in physical
therapy, speech-language pathology, nursing and clinical investigation. For more

Nursing Research Day

The MGH Nursing Research Committee is requesting
research and research utilization projects conducted by MGH nurses. Nurses are invited to
share their projects as oral presentations on Research Day, May 9, or to share posters for
the annual Nursing Research Poster Presentation during Nurse Recognition 2001, May 6 to
18. The committee will offer graphic arts assistance to interested participants. For more

Charlestown Healthy
Heart Day
The MGH Charlestown HealthCare Center will sponsor its annual health fair
in observance of Charlestown Healthy Heart Day, May 3, from noon to 5 pm at the Johnnies
Foodmaster in the Bunker Hill Mall, Charlestown. The fair will focus on heightening
community awareness of healthy lifestyle improvements, and will feature a raffle, free

AMMP spring soirée
The Association of Multicultural Members of Partners
(AMMP) will host a spring soirée, May 4, from 5 to 9 pm at the Holiday Inn, 5 Blossom St.
