MGH Cancer Center HOPES
seminars
The MGH
Cancer Center HOPES Program (Helping Our Patients/Families through Education and
Support) will offer "Fear of Death, Spiritual Resources," facilitated by Fr.
Michael McElhinny, SM, of the MGH Chaplaincy, April 18, noon to 1 pm. "Parenting in
Challenging Times: A Drop-In Support Group for Parents," facilitated by Paula Rauch,
MD, of MGH Psychiatry, will be offered April 25, 11 am to noon. "What Can I Take for
Cold and Allergies?" facilitated by Regina Holdstock, RPH, of the MGH Pharmacy, will
be offered April 25, noon to 1 pm. "Feeling Stressed? Some Simple Steps to
Relax," facilitated by Evelyn Malkin, MSW, of MGH Social Services, will be offered
April 26, noon to 1 pm. All seminars are held in the Cancer Resource Room, Cox 1. For more

AMMP scholarship
applications
The Association
of Multicultural Members of Partners (AMMP) will offer scholarships
for minority employees who have been accepted into academic or professional
certificate programs for the fall or spring. Scholarship recipients must
commit to at least 20 service hours to AMMP between Oct. 1, 2000 and Sept.
30, 2001. Scholarships will be awarded for up to $1,000. Applications
may be obtained from Angela Gee, AMMP scholarship chairperson, at GRB

Weight Center forum
The MGH Weight Center
will offer a forum about "Current Approaches to Weight Management: An Introduction to
the MGH Weight Center," led by Lee M. Kaplan, MD, PhD, of the MGH Gastrointestinal
Unit, April 26, 6:30 to 8 pm in the Wellman Conference Room. This forum is part of an MGH

Holy Week and
Passover services
Palm Sunday Roman Catholic Mass will be offered
April 16 at 4 pm. Palms will be distributed to inpatients in the morning. Ecumenical
Service and Mass will be offered as regularly scheduled April 17, 18 and 19 at 12:15 pm.
Ecumenical prayer for Holy (Maundy) Thursday will be April 20 at 4 pm. Good Friday
Ecumenical service will be April 21 at 12:15. Roman Catholic services, Passion of the Lord
and Holy Communion, will be April 21 at 4 pm. There will be no 4 pm Mass on Holy Saturday,
April 22. The Easter vigil Roman Catholic Mass will be April 22 at 7 pm. Easter Sunday
Episcopal Communion will be April 23 at 1 pm. Easter Sunday Roman Catholic Mass will be
April 23 at 4 pm. All services will be held in the MGH Chapel, located on Ellison 1.
Passover programs will be broadcast on channel 16, April 19 and 20 at 6 pm. For more

luncheon
The 2000 Secretarial and Clerical Support Staff
Luncheon and Pamela J. Ellis Award presentation will be held April 26, 11:30 am to 2 pm,
under the Bulfinch tent. The lunch will begin at 11:30 am, and the award presentation will
be at 12:15 pm.
Genomics Approaches
to Common Diseases Series
The Clinical Research Program
will present "Genome Variation and the Genetics of Complex Traits,"
the second lecture in the Genomics Approaches to Common Diseases Series,
April 26, 4 to 5 pm in the O'Keeffe Auditorium. David Altshuler, MD, PhD,
of the MGH Endocrine Unit, will review studies of human genome variation,
as well as methods to apply this information to study the genetics of

Friends
of the MGH Cancer Center DIALOGUE
The Friends of the MGH Cancer Center
will present a DIALOGUE: "Cancer — Early Detection is Best
— A Delphi Panel," April 18 in the O'Keeffe Auditorium, 5:30
to 7:30 pm. The audience will participate to determine what are the best
early warning signs of cancer. Henry Mankin, MD, chief of Orthopaedic
Oncology, will moderate a panel of physicians. Refreshments will be served.

Job Shadow Day
deadline
The deadline to register for hosting a Timilty
Middle School student for the fourth annual City of Boston Middle School Job Shadow Day is
April 19. Job Shadow Day introduces students to the world of work and promotes career
exploration. Timilty Middle School seventh graders will be at the MGH May 16, from 9 am to

Organ Donor Awareness
Week
The New England Organ
Bank (NEOB) will host an information table in the Main Lobby April 18, 19 and 20, from
10 am to 2 pm in recognition of National Organ and Tissue Donor Awareness Week. Staff from
NEOB and the MGH
Transplant Service as well as organ recipients will be on hand to answer questions.
MGH t-shirts will be on sale to benefit the MGH Transplant Education Fund. For more
