New Partners general counsel and vice president

Partners HealthCare president and chief executive officer, Samuel O. Thier, MD, announced this week the selection of Brent L. Henry (at right) as the new general counsel and vice president for Partners. Henry will be assuming the position June 1. Ernest M. Haddad left the position as general counsel in December 2001 to return to academia, after 21 years of service to Partners and the MGH.

Henry has 17 years of senior-level legal experience in the health care field. Since 1985, he has been general counsel for MedStar Health (formerly Medlantic). MedStar is the largest health care network in the Baltimore and Washington, DC areas. Similar to Partners, MedStar is an integrated delivery network that offers its patients the full continuum of care. Its seven hospitals, which include Georgetown University Hospital, have relationships with more than 4,000 physicians and 22,000 employees.

Henry is a member of the Board of Governors of the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center, a trustee of Princeton University, and a past president of the American Health Lawyer's Association. In addition to his other legal experience in private practice, Henry taught a course on health care law for 13 years as a member of the adjunct faculty of Howard University's School of Business and Public Administration. As deputy administrator of the New York City Human Resources Administration, he directed the city's Medicaid program.
