  • Countdown is on for JCAHO survey
    The new year starts a countdown to the MGH's next survey by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). The full hospital survey — a comprehensive review of hospital programs, policies and procedures — is expected to take place sometime in September.
  • Life after coma: A patient's tale
    When Ruth West woke up in her MGH hospital bed in April 1997, she did not have any idea what day it was or what had happened to her. Nor had she seen the baby girl that she had given birth to three days earlier.
  • MGH Leadership Campaign exceeds fundraising goal
    The MGH Leadership Campaign, the hospital's fundraising drive, has surpassed its $320 million goal nearly a full year ahead of schedule, according to Jane D. Claflin, honorary trustee, and W. Gerald Austen, MD, chairman of the Massachusetts General Physicians Organization, who are co-chairs of the campaign.
  • New research center for aging and genetics scheduled to open next year
    An anonymous donor recently contributed $2 million to the MGH to help fund a basic and clinical research center for Huntington's, Parkinson's, Lou Gehrig's and Alzheimer's diseases. The Center for Aging, Genetics and Neurodegeneration (CAGN) is scheduled to open its doors next year in the hospital's new building that is being constructed at CNY.
  • Once upon a time
    MassGeneral Hospital for Children recently began distributing a book entitled "Operation Day" to young patients in hopes of alleviating any fears they may have about undergoing an operation.
