MGH
Leadership Campaign exceeds fundraising goal The MGH Leadership Campaign, the hospital's fundraising drive, has surpassed its $320 million goal nearly a full year ahead of schedule, according to Jane D. Claflin, honorary trustee, and W. Gerald Austen, MD, chairman of the Massachusetts General Physicians Organization, who are co-chairs of the campaign. The news was announced at a dinner hosted by the MGH Development Office Jan. 12 at the Royal Sonesta Hotel in Cambridge. Launched in 1992, the campaign's original goal was $160 million. When that mark was exceeded early, however, the hospital's Board of Trustees doubled the goal and extended the drive to Dec. 31, 2000. A new fundraising initiative also was announced at the dinner, in which the MGH will seek to raise $300 million over the next four years. Approximately $60 million will help fund the construction of a new outpatient facility, and an additional $240 million will support research and training.
