  • Financial challenges discussed at Partners Town Meeting
    At the Partners town meeting held May 17 in a packed O'Keeffe Auditorium, Samuel O. Thier, MD, president and CEO of Partners HealthCare, discussed national and local financial challenges that are affecting Partners and its affiliated institutions, focusing on cuts in Medicare as well as tougher demands from managed care companies.
  • Lending a paw or two
    Equipped with a stethoscope and dressed in scrubs, "Dr. Nick" gave some special canine care to MGH patient Joseph Eveld, 14, during a visit to Ellison 18 last week. The friendly long-haired guest belonged to Jennifer Arnold of Canine Assistants, which trains service dogs to assist children and adults who have physical disabilities.
  • Task force unveils plans for Partnerswide genetics center
    As researchers across the country seek to identify the 100,000 genes present on the double helix known as DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid), some 70 physicians and researchers spanning clinical and bench research throughout Partners are building the framework for a Comprehensive Center for Human Genetics.
  • MGHers urge women to have mammograms
    Barbara Smith, MD, director of the Gillette Center for Women's Cancers at the MGH, and Larry Ronan MD, an MGH primary care physician, helped Boston Mayor Thomas Menino and Lt. Governor Jane Swift commemorate Mother's Day by urging women over 40 to have annual mammograms.

    Jonathan Chao, a seventh grader at the James P. Timilty Middle School, prepares a patient food tray in the kitchen during the third annual citywide Job Shadow Day.
