Beta Adrenergic Antagonist

Indications:

Hypertension
Supraventricular tachycardia
Blood pressure control in patients with dissecting aortic aneurysm
Tachycardia and rate related ischemia
Unstable angina

Administration Guidelines:

Usual Dosage Range and Route:

LOADING DOSE : 0.5 to 2.0 mg IVP

*LOADING DOSE IS USUALLY GIVEN PRIOR TO STARTING MAINTENANCE

MAINTENANCE : 1 to 40 mg / hour as titrated to patient response.

0.5 TO 2.0 mg IVP AT 4 to 6 hour intervals as titrated to patient response.

Standard Concentration:

25 mg / 100 ml

Syringe Based, Variable Flow, Continuous Microinfusion Pump: 50 mg / 50 ml

EW Standard

25mg/ 100mL

Special Considerations:

- PA-line monitoring of cardiac output, cardiac index, PCWP, CVP, SVR, is encouraged during maintenance infusions

Precautions and Side Effects:

- Bradycardia, AV block

- Bronchospasm

- Hypotension

- Cardiac Failure

- CNS Depression, Hallucinations
