Usual Dosage Range and Route: |
LOADING DOSE : 12.5 - 50 mg IVP over 2 - 5 minutes depending on patient requirement. MAINTENANCE : May repeat every 2 - 3 hours as titrated to patient response. Shivering: 12.5-100mg/hr titrated to patient response |

Special Considerations: |
- Rapid injection can cause increased incidence of side effects - Drug tolerance may result in the need for higher dosage requirements |
Precautions and Side Effects: |
- Use caution in patients with renal failure - Respiratory depression, bradypnea - Bronchospasm, Tachypnea - Pulmonary Hypertension - Ileus, Constipation, Nausea, Vomiting - Hypotension, Hypertension. Patients with underlying cardiac disease may be more susceptible to these adverse effects - CNS depression - Tachy, Bradycardia - Should not be used in patients receiving monoamine oxidase inhibitors |
