Indications:

Renal Failure
Oliguria

Administration Guidelines:

Usual Dosage Range and Route:

Start AT 5 ML/hour and titrate to patient's urine output up to a maximum of 20 ml/ hour.

Standard Concentration:

Add Furosemide 1000mg (100ml) to Mannitol 20% 500ml

Total Volume = 600 ML

MICROINFUSION:

Add Furosemide 100mg (10mL) to Mannitol 20% 40mL

Total Volume = 50mL

Special Considerations:

- Monitor serum & urine electrolytes and serum osmolality as indicated

- IV infusions must have a 1 micron in-line filter

- In the presence of end stage renal disease mannitol may be harmful by causing an over expansion of intravascular fluid resulting in signs and symptoms of pulmonary edema and CHF.

Precautions and Side Effects:

- Tachycardia, Angina

- Electrolyte Abnormalities

- Hypo/hypertension

- Pulmonary Edema, CHF
