Generic Name : Hydromorphone

Trade Name : Dilaudid

Action : Opiate Analgesic

Indications:

•  Analgesia

• Sedation

•  Respiratory distress

•  Pulmonary edema

•  Anxiety

Administration Guidelines:

Usual Dosage Range and Route:

LOADING DOSE: 0.5-2.5 mg IV over 2-5 minutes
MAINTENACE: 1-20 mg/hr titrated to patients response

Standard Concentration:

•  25mg/50mL (0.5mg/mL)

•  500mg/50mL (10mg/mL)

MICROINFUSION:

•  25mg/50mL (0.5mg/mL)

•  500mg/50mL (10mg/mL)

Special Considerations:

• Rapid injection can cause increased side effects
• Tolerance may result in higher dosage requirements
• When using a continuous infusion, a bowel regimen should be started to prevent an ileus or constipation

Precautions and Side Effects:

• Respiratory depression, bradypnea
• Bronchospasm, tachypnea
• Ileus, constipation, nausea, vomiting
• Hypotension
• CNS depression
• Tachy, bradycardia
• Will potentiate other sedatives
