Administration Guidelines:

Usual Dosage Range and Route:

SINGLE DOSE : 20 - 200 mg IVP AT 20 mg / min

Recommended 24 HOUR CUMULATIVE DOSE : 600 mg

Refractory patients may require continuous infusion

Dose: 5-20mg/hr titrate response

Standard Concentrations:

100mg/ 100mL

 

Syringe based, variable flow, continuous microinfusion pump : 500mg/50ml

EW Standard

100mg/ 100mL

Special Consideration:

- Serum potassium levels should be known prior to administration and monitored periodically during therapy

- May increase insulin requirements in diabetic patients

- May potentiate the activity of antihypertensives, neuromuscular blocking agents, digoxin

- OTO / renal toxicity may be enhanced with co- administration of aminoglycosides

Precautions and Side Effects:

- Hypovolemia

- Hypokalemia

- Hyponatremia

- Hypomagnesemia

- Transient deafness

- Elevated uric acid

- Hyperglycemia
