Inhibition of plasminogen activation and fibrinolysis |
INDICATIONS: |
- Hyperfibronolytic state status post surgery or trauma - Hemophilia - Hematuria status post urologic procedures - Prophylaxis against hemorrhage in leukopenic patients recieving chemotherapy - Antidote for hemmorrhage associated with thrombolytic therapy |
Administration Guidelines: |

Usual Dose and Route |
LOAD : 4 - 5 G given over 1 hour MAINTENANCE : 6 - 24 g given continuously over 24 hours TOTAL 24 hour dose should not exceed 30 g |
Standard Concentration: |
Syringe: 12.5 G / 50ml
Central: 24 G / 500 ml Peripheral: 6 G / 250 ml 24 G / 500 ml |
Special Considerations: |
- Dosage adjustments may be required in: - cardiac failure - renal failure - hepatic failure - Should not be used in DIC except with concomittant heparin therapy |
Precautions and Side Effects: |
- Hypotension - Bradycardia, bradyarrhythmias (may be caused by rapid infusion) - Nausea, diarrhea, cramping, abdominal distention - Dizziness, headache - Elevated CPK, SGOT - Thrombosis -Intrarenal obstruction |
