Generic Name: Abiciximab
Trade Name: ReoproŽ
Action: Glycoprotein IIB/IIIA inhibitor/preventing platelet adhesion and aggregation
Indications: Prevent thrombus formation post PTCA and post stent placement.
Precautions and Side Effects: Bleeding complications and thrombocytopenia are common side effects.
Allergic reaction: Anaphylaxis may occur; hypotension with bolus dose
Standard Concentrations: 9 mg / 250 ml
Administration Guidelines: Bolus-0.25mg/kg administered 10-60minutes prior to PTCA.

Bolus-withdraw through the 0.2 or 0.22 micron low protein-binding filter the appropriate amount of ReoproŽ for the patient’s weight, 0.25mg/kg.

Infusion-withdraw 4.5ml through the Millipore filter into a syringe. Inject into 250cc bag of NS & infuse at a rate of 0.125mcg/kg/min to max 10mcg/min. The IV tubing must have a filter on it (0.2 or 0.22 micron low protein-binding filter) & no other meds. should be piggybacked through this line.
