Generic Name: Cytomegalovirus immune globulin intravenous (human)
Trade Name: CMV - IGIV
Action: Immunoglobulin with relatively high concentration of antibodies directed against CMV
Indications: Attenuation of primary cytomegalovirus disease associated with transplantation. Specifically indicated for transplant recipients who are seronegative for CMV and who receive an organ from CMV seropositive donor.
Administration Guidelines:                         Maximum recommended dosage per infusion - 150 mg/kg
Administration Preparation - reconstitute powder with 50 ml sterile H20

- Do not shake the vials...avoid foaming

- Allow 30 minutes to dissolve

Infusion - I.V. administration via macro-infusion device with vented tubing or with a syringe based, variable flow continuous microinfusion pump.

- Rate of administration is calculated by weight and increased in increments over a determined amount of time (*refer to attached administration guidelines)

- *Do not exceed a maximum rate of > 75 ml/hr.

Special Considerations: - *Vital signs should be done pre-infusion, midway and post-infusion, as well as before any rate increase.

- Infusion should begin within 6 hours of reconstitution

- Obtained from blood bank.

Precautions and Side Effects: - If a patient develops minor side-effects, such as flushing, nausea,  back pain, muscle cramps, slow down infusion.

- Hypotension
