Indications:

Hypophosphatemia or Hyponatremia

Administration Guidelines:

Usual Dosage Range and Route:

Infusion Rate: 5 millimole per hour

 

Maximum Infusion Rate : 7.5 millimole per hour

24 Hour Cumulative : 45 millimole / 24 hours

 

 

Sodium Phosphate

Standard Concentration:

Central or peripheral:

10 millimole / 100ml

15 millimoles/ 100ml

20 millimoles/250ml

30 millimoles/ 250ml

45 millimoles/500ml

Maximum Concentration :

Central:

45 millimole / 100ml

 

Peripheral:

15 millimole / 100ml

Special Considerations:

 

- 3 millimoles of Sodium Phosphate= 4 mEq of Sodium

-Ionized calcium and phosphorous level must be known prior to infusion and checked 24 hours post-infusion of phosphorus and prior to next dose.

-Maintain on oral phosphates when necessary

-Renal Failure

Precautions and Side Effects:

-Monitor Bun, creatinine

-Hypocalcaemia

-Hypercalcemia

- Burning sensation may result at site of injection if administered through peripheral access
