| You play a very important
role in your own health care and treatment. The better
you understand the health issues that are part of your
life, the better you can talk with your doctors, nurses,
and therapists to make the health care decisions that
are best for you.
People need to play an important role in their own
health. Educating oneself is central to understanding.
Consumer health libraries such as the Patient and Family
Learning Center can help one understand medical issues,
because the information in consumer health libraries
is written for the lay public.
The Maxwell & Eleanor Blum Patient and Family Learning
Center at the Massachusetts General Hospital is here
to help you learn about health and illness. Volunteers,
nurses, and a health educator are on-hand to help you
find easy-to-read pamphlets, magazines, audio tapes,
videos, CD-ROMs, web sites and both medical and consumer
health books.
Whether you are a child or a senior --or any age in
between-- you will find materials in a variety of languages
to help you.
The Center staff can assist you in easily reaching
other MGH resources such as the Cancer Resource Room
and Treadwell Library, if you want additional or more
specialized information.
