By 1860 the thermometer had been perfected, the physician’s stethoscope was in vogue, methods for determining blood pressure had been discovered.  Limited-scale inoculation and vaccination procedures had been introduced, and the idea that disease originated in localized areas of the body had been present.  These new technologies marked significant changes in nursing practice.
