The Diabetes Clinical Assay Laboratory
performs measurements of glycemic control for the
diagnosis and management of diabetes mellitus. The
major assay performed is a measure of glycosylated
hemoglobin which reflects the average glucose control
over the preceding 2 to 3 months. A variety of assay
methods are used, depending on the clinical setting.
The MGH Diabetes Clinical Assay Laboratory is a primary
reference laboratory for the National Glycohemoglobin
Standardization Program (NGSP). Other assays relevant
to clinical research in diabetes and metabolism are
performed.
