Clinical Services

The Division of Clinical Services is led by Dr. Kent B. Lewandrowski (Associate Chief of Pathology, Clinical Services). The majority of faculty members (more than 70) have activities in this Division, including seven who also work in affiliated institutes (Mass Eye & Ear Infirmary, Shriner's Burns Institute, Cambridge Hospital).  The Division includes over 600 physicians, technologists, administrators, and other staff engaged in providing clinical services around the clock, every day of the year.

The Division oversees and coordinates the activities of the following major clinical specialties:

(1) Core Laboratory: Chemistry, Hematology, Acute Care
(2) Health Center Laboratories: Revere Health Center, Chelsea Health Center

In addition to the clinical specialties, the Division coordinates the work of Laboratory Support Services (customer service, outpatient specimen collection and specimen transport). The Laboratory Handbook provides test information, test algorithms, as well as specific policies and procedures for specimen collection and results reporting. The Division coordinates all regulatory activities for the Pathology Service and sites performing point of care tests.
