Nursing Preceptorships The Palliative Care Service at Massachusetts General Hospital offers graduate nurses a preceptorship in palliative care if they are currently enrolled in a graduate program. Our service works in collaboration with the Knight Center for Clinical and Professional Development. Graduate nursing education focuses mainly on adult patients with a life threatening illness including but not limited to, cancer, cardiac disease, renal disease, pulmonary disease, neurological disease, trauma, HIV/AIDS. The advanced practice nurse will become familiar with comprehensive care which includes the interdisciplinary process, evaluation of pain and symptoms, management of pain and symptoms of people with terminal illnesses, psychosocial support, and bereavement care. The various roles with in advanced practice will be explored including direct care provider, patient educator, consultant, and case manager. The APN will experience palliative care in a variety of settings including the MGH inpatient units, the outpatient palliative care clinic, the affiliated Partners rehabilitation institutions of Youville and Spaulding, and The North End Nursing Home, as well as in the home care setting. The APN is supervised in all experiences by the Team of Palliative Care Nurse Practitioners with an emphasis on adult learning and goal setting. Address inquiries to:
