Mission

The MGH Center for Translational Pain Research strives to improve the clinical management of patients experiencing acute, chronic, and cancer pain conditions by using a multidisciplinary and mechanism-based research approach to clinical pain management together with basic science pain research.

The goals of the MGH Center for Translational Pain Research are:

  • To advance a mechanism-based clinical pain research program. The Center will promote and sponsor clinical studies leading to peer-reviewed publications and extramural funding.

  • To conduct clinical trials.  The Center will participate in Phase II and Phase III clinical trials of new medications or devices related to clinical pain management.

  • To integrate basic and clinical pain research.  The Center will promote academic activities to bridge the gap between basic science and clinical pain research.

  • To promote technology transfer.  The Center will facilitate technology transfer for ideas generated from basic and clinical pain research as well as for inventions related to clinical pain management.
