Research Agenda

The SBRC is dedicated to combining scientific inquiry with emerging technologies to expand and improve the surgeon’s toolkit in treating patients with diseases and anomalies of the maxillofacial region. Our success is measured by our ability to reduce morbidity, lower length of stay, and improve outcomes of patients who require oral and maxillofacial procedures.

The scope of our work involves the pursuit and application of four main competencies:

  • Biology of bone and wound healing
  • Refinement of minimally invasive surgical techniques
  • Device design and adaptation for the curvilinear attributes of the face and jaw
  • 3-D computerized craniomaxillofacial treatment planning.

While the SBRC focuses exclusively on the face and jaws, we are indebted to the following resources of Mass General and Harvard Medical School whose more general work in each area has helped to accelerate our impact on the specialty of oral and maxillofacial surgery:
