Dr. Dodson elected to Board of OMS Foundation
Dr. Dodson was elected to the Board of Directors of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Foundation. The OMS Foundation is the only foundation that supports the OMS specialty. Its mission includes supporting research and education to advance the OMS specialty. The Board of Directors includes elected and appointed oral and maxillofacial surgeons and lay members.
Dr. Dodson elected president of HDAA
Dr. Dodson was elected president of the Harvard Dental Alumni Association for a two-year term beginning June, 2008. Election was held at HSDM during Alumni Day activities on June 8, 2008.
Dr. Kaban chairs Festschrift for Dr. John Mulliken
Dr. Kaban served as chair of the Festschrift for Dr. John Mulliken of Children’s Hospital Boston on April 26, 2008. The Festschrift committee included 150 craniofacial and maxillofacial surgeons and physicians interested in vascular anomalies from around the world. The proceedings will be published as a Supplement to the Journal of Craniofacial Surgery, co-edited by Dr. Kaban. Dr. Kaban's presentation and paper, Facial Asymmetry and the 4th Dimension, documents the changes in facial proportions that occur with time and growth (4th dimension) in children.
Dean Donoff honored with ‘Tree of Peace’ Award
Dr. Donoff, HSDM dean, was among five giants in the dental profession honored by the American Friends of Hebrew University for his work in the “Bridge to Peace” program between Hebrew University in Jerusalem and al-Qud University, a Palestinian university. The ‘Etz Shalom’ (Tree of Peace) Award was presented 10/16/07 at a gala event at the Hotel Pierre in Manhattan in recognition of their diverse contributions to the dental profession and their efforts at promoting peace in the Middle East. Among his accomplishments, Dr. Donoff co-chaired ground-breaking international conferences for dental health professions in the Middle East, convened by the D. Walter Cohen Middle East Center for Dental Education, a unit of The Hebrew University School of Dental Medicine and he is an active supported of the Jerusalem Dental Center for Children. more »
OMS faculty present at 33rd Yankee Dental Congress, Boston, MA
Department faculty presented a broad range of topics at the 33rd Yankee Dental Congress held in Boston January 30th-February 3rd. Dr. Dodson presented “So Your Mother is Taking Fosamax and Other Bisphosphonate-Related ONJ Issues.” Drs. Shaefer and Kaban presented “Sleep Apnea Treatment for Dental Practitioners.” Dr. Halperin presented “Diagnosis of Violence and Abuse.” Dr. Keith gave the Minuteman Lecture on Non-Odontogenic Orofacial Pain. The Yankee Dental Congress is presented by the Massachusetts Dental Society in cooperation with the dental societies of Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont.

OMS resident wins Windent award
Dr. W. Bradford Williams, current resident in OMS, was the recipient of one of ten scholarship awards from Windent. The $2000 scholarship is available to all OMS residents in the U.S. who attend an accredited OMS university program. To apply for the award, Dr. Williams wrote several competition essays, including his goals for the practice of OMS and his vision for the impact of technology on the future practice of OMS.
Dr. Troulis selected for Barger mentoring award
Dr. Troulis was among seven HMS/HSDM faculty members selected for the 2007-2008 A. Clifford Barger Excellence in Mentoring Award. This award, supported by the HMS Office for Diversity and Community Partnership, is given annually to members of the faculty who have been nominated by students or trainees as exemplary mentors. Dr. Dodson was also nominated for this award.
