Forging clinical truth from points of data

The Center for Applied Clinical Investigation (CACI) of the Mass General Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery is a training and research center where scientific rigor is used to examine clinical practice and to determine risks and outcomes associated with the variables that comprise patient care. Through a comprehensive program of directed research, we aim to discover compelling evidence while also educating oral and maxillofacial surgeons to conduct studies and interpret findings.

Our aim is to improve the practice of oral and maxillofacial surgery by revealing evidence that leads to improved clinical decision making.

The CACI research agenda currently includes:

  • Third molar outcomes
  • Bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaws (BRON)
  • Intimate partner violence
  • Giant cell bone tumors
  • Implant survival
